Just had the pleasure of speaking to over 100 assistant district attorneys on the importance of honoring and serving Veterans not just on this upcoming Veterans Day, but all 365 days in the year. I hope that sharing stories about my experiences in the Army and DOD during the Cuban Missile Crisis and early years of the Vietnam War helped reinforce this important message.
Thanks to District Attorney Larry Krasner, Assistant District Attorney and Sgt. First Class Shawn Baldwin, who extended me the invite as one of the featured guest speakers of the District Attorney’s Office Veterans Day Celebration. The young choral group who sang the National Anthem and the military Honor Guard only added to this wonderful event.
As a Veterans Affairs Commissioner with Philadelphia City Council I along with my fellow Commissioners advocate for the Veteran community of Philadelphia. I hope my remarks help inspire as the District Attorney’s Office continue their great work to help Veterans, particularly through the use of Veteran’s Court.
“Thank you for your service” while nice, is often inadequate to truly thank our Veterans for the sacrifices they have made. I encourage everyone this Veterans Day to go beyond words, and instead to action.
Lloyd Z. Remick, Esq.
